Ed Nizalowski on the History of the Flute and Saxophone.

August 22, 2017 @ 6:45 pm - 8:00 pm

Please join us on Tuesday, August 22, when Ed Nizalowski will discuss the History of the Flute and Saxophone.  Although he has spent the last 25 years as a high school librarian, Ed Nizalowski’s first pursuit was music education majoring in the flute. In retirement, he is once again playing this instrument along with the saxophone. Also being an historian, he has been spending time learning about the amazing history and development of both these instruments. The flute and the saxophone have many remarkable similarities and differences. Although both are in the woodwind family, producing sound on these instruments is completely different. The flute is also the oldest instrument, with artifacts going back 35,000 years. The saxophone, on the other hand, can be considered the newest instrument of the orchestra. Ed will have a variety of primitive flutes on hand along with a piccolo and an alto flute. He will be performing some of the literature from different periods.
